Round 1
Top 5 Running Backs

21. Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson
If Phillip Merling is still on the board I think the Redskins will take him. It really isn't there biggest need, but I do think they are targetting the pass rush specialist. The better pick for them would be to take a Wide Receiver but Merling is a very talented and versatile Defensive End and the Giants have already proved the worth of having three good Defensive Ends.

Previous Revision: James Hardy, WR, Indiana

22. Limas Sweed, WR, Texas (from Cleveland)

I do still think the Cowboys would like to see Phillips still on the board with this pick but if that doesn't happen they should look to WR. I do not think it is smart to take a compliment to Marion Barber with their top first round pick, even though most mock drafts have the Cowboys taking Felix Jones with this pick. It should be noted that Jerry Jones has never drafted a player from Arkansas. Sweed is my second rated Wide Receiver, even though several analysists have him as their 5th rated receiver. I think that if he can overcome the wrist injury he has all the abilities to become a #1 receiver. However, he must learn to be a little more physical.

Previous Revision: Kenny Phillips, Safety, Miami

23. Kentwan Balmer, Defensive Tackle, North Carolina
I don't buy into the idea that the Steelers will take Quentin Groves with this pick. I don't think he is worth the 23th overall selection and needs to become more technically sound. If he gets better in coverage then maybe but right now I see him as an early second rounder that may sneak into the late first round.

The Steelers will draft someone who will play on the line of scrimmage. The best option for them with this pick are on defense because at Offensive Tackle both Williams and Otah are gone. They should look at Kentwan Balmer from North Carolina because even though he is listed as a Defensive Tackle I think he will do very well as a 3-4 Defensive End.

Previous Revision: Same

24. Felix Jones, Runningback, Arkansas
The signing of Tight End Alge Crumpler gives the Titans some breathing room in the first round. Crumpler should provide Vince Young with some much needed help but the Titans could still look to take another Receiver. The Titans have lost Chris Brown this offseason and Lendale White needs a running mate in the backfield. They should look to Arkansas and take McFaddens backup who is actually a better pure runner, just watch one game and you will be able to see that, he sets up his block much better than McFadden does.

Previous Revision: Same

25. Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville

The Ravens were unable to land Matt Ryan with the 8th overall selection. With Quarterback being their top priority I believe it would be best for them to trade back into the first round to take their top Quarterback prospect. The most likely teams for them to trade up with would be Seattle and Dallas. Seattle would like to take a Tight End but the early second round is a much better value for that position than the 25th overall pick.

Previous Selection: Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy

26. Calais Campbell, DE, Miami
The ideal pick here would be Phillip Merling, but his stock has rose enough to where I do not believe he will be available. Another possible pick would be to take Gosder Cherilus in front of the Chargers.

Previous Revision: Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson

27. Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
The Chargers need another Offensive Tackle to start opposite Marcus McNeill because of the play of Shane Olivea. Cherilus will get every opportunity to prove he is worth the first round grade. If he is going to excel at the next level he is going to need to work on his technique. If Cherilus is gone I would expect the Chargers to target a Cornerback.

Previous Revision: Same

28. Chris Johnson, Runningback, East Carolina
The Cowboys need to add another Runningback to the mix and Chris Johnson is the best compliment to Marion Barber in this draft. His 4.24 time in the 40 yard dash was the best of all the athletes that participated and a versatile speedster is exactly what the Cowboys offense needs. We know the Cowboys are looking at drafting Johnson and if they are going to get him it has to be here. The only other way would to trade up in the second round to take him.

Previous Revision: Same

29. Jerod Mayo, ILB, Tennessee (from Indianapolis)
The 49ers still need to add a linebacker. They were unable to land Lance Briggs in free agency and should make up for it here. If Mayo is off the board I would expect them to take a Receiver or an Offensive Tackle.

Previous Revision: Limas Sweed, WR, Texas

 30. Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
The Packers should choose between Talib, Baker, or a Tight End. The best value with this pick is taking a Cornerback to learn while backing up the two aging starters. Talib was considered the second best CB before the Combine workout. At the combine he looked stiff in his positional drills and wasn't able to run as fast as the competition. If he can be drafted into a situation where he isn't asked to start right away, he could become very good, but he does need to continue his development.

Previous Revision: Sam Baker, OT, USC

 31. Dan Connor, Linebacker, Penn State

The Giants would do well to add another Linebacker and Dan Connor has great value with the last pick in the first round. I think his value is closer to the 17th - 27th picks but in this scenario he falls to the Giants.
